Today, flydubai announced that it is set to launch it’s low cost airline flights in mid-2009. According to Kenneth Gile, flydubai’s chief operating officer, the new airline received 11,500 applications from flight and cabin crew. 80 candidates survived. The first groep of 21 cabin crew and 24 captains are currently undergoing training in preparation for flydubai’s launch in a few months time.
Remarkable for a low cost airline company was the aquisition of 54 brand new Next-Generation 737-800 aircrafts from Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show last july. These airplanes are considered ‘topnotch’ and will be able to fly at destinations 4.5 hours from Dubai. Which destinations is unknown yet, but all plains will leave from the modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport.
flydubai is a company started by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, brother of the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, who is already swaying the sceptre at Emirates Airlines.
